Bob Arum: Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton is Next
By Mark Vester
After his demolition of Oscar De La Hoya at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Filipino warrior Manny Pacquiao is ready for the next challenge - 140-pound champion Ricky Hatton. Pacquaio says he is ready to fight Hatton at any time and anywhere - including Hatton's backyard of England.
"My job is to fight in the ring, that's the promoter's job. I can fight any time, anywhere. I can go to England to fight Hatton, no problem," Pacquiao said.
Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, says Hatton is the number one choice on their list of opponents for 2009. Arum plans to speak with Hatton's father and mananger, Ray Hatton, in the new year.
"Why not [Pacquiao vs. Hatton]? But tonight and until the new year it's celebration time for all the Filipinos. After that I know Ray: we'll sit down, we'll talk. That's probably the most logical fight to be made, Manny against Ricky Hatton at 140lbs, because obviously Manny would want to fight at 140 and so would Ricky. That's probably number one on the drawing board. But let the kid have a great Christmas and new year, and then we'll sit down to business," Arum said.
