Hatton says fighting Pacquiao will be 'good'

MANILA, Philippines - Ricky Hatton, acknowledged as one of the greatest superlightweight boxers of all time, said on Saturday night that he'd be interested to take on the winner of the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar de la Hoya match.

Or maybe, either one of the two.

"Let's hope it's the winner ... [but] who am I to say who will win that? In fact, the winner or the loser will be a good fight to be honest," Hatton told Yahoo.com's Eurosport.

Hatton tore Paulie Malignaggi to shreds in their 12-round meeting Saturday in Las Vegas. It was the Englishman's first fight returning to his comfort zone at 140lbs after he went up to 147lbs to battle Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2006 which he lost.

Hatton's name had propped up significantly as a possible Pacquiao opponent after Pacquiao's rousing victory over David Diaz last June. And it is being mentioned prominently as Pacquiao's next assignment after de la Hoya.

A bout pitting Hatton, known as the Hitman, and the Pacman - two natural brawlers - is expected to be all fireworks, the kind of matchup that would attract boxing fans and would in turn rake in the dollars for Pacquiao.

Hatton said he will be at the MGM Grand ringside on December 6.

"With Oscar and Pacquaio you're looking at two fighters in the pound-for-pound top 10," he added.

"If I'm going to have maybe a couple of years left at this game, what sort of champion would I be if I turned my back on fighting someone like Oscar or Manny Pacquiao?"
