Hatton's Chances Not Good against Pacquiao, says Warren
The top promoter of the UK, Frank Warren, doesn't like Ricky Hatton's chances against Manny Pacquiao on May 2 in Las Vegas. Warren says the junior welterweight limit is ideal for Hatton, but Pacquiao will be stronger and faster than he was against Oscar De La Hoya at welterweight. Warren promoted Hatton for several years before the two had a bitter falling out in 2005.
"I have to admit I don’t like Hatton’s chances. Boxing at light-welterweight will suit him but it will favor Pacquiao more because he’ll be that bit quicker than he was against Oscar De La Hoya at welterweight and even stronger," Warren said.
Warren also saw no reason for Hatton's team to push for the fight to take place in the UK. He says the most important part of that fight is to sell the pay-per-view and for that very reason the fight needed to take place in the United States.
"It made no sense for Hatton’s people to be doing the talking. The most important aspect of Pacquiao-Hatton from a promotional point of view will be selling PPV numbers. For that reason, it has to take place in the States because the Press there will help sell it to a huge audience," Warren said.
