WHY PACQUIAO VS HATTON WILL NOT SUCK

I don't know about you, but I for one am getting tired of boxing's so called “Dream Matches.” Let's take a look at the so called mega fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. This fight was hyped up like no other, the big press tours, the big press releases, the big smack talking, the big prices, and then ultimately, the big let down. I for one would rather watch paint dry than watch the Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr fight again. If you are have a sleep disorder and need a remedy to put you to sleep, then by all means go watch that fight again, it will surely put you to sleep.

The next “Bore-Festival” comes via Roy Jones Jr vs Joe Calzaghe. This is another problem that I have in boxing. Promoters charging the fans $ 49.99 to watch past their prime fighters, fight younger fighters both of whom have names in boxing, thus creating just enough intrigue to sway the fans to break out his or her credit card. This fight sucked, and what was worse was having to sit through it and watch a legend in Roy Jones get picked apart by a younger more in his prime fighter.

The same argument could possibly be made of the Pacquiao vs De La Hoya fight. The difference in this fight was the size differential. Most people thought Oscar would have blown back up to 160 plus lbs by fight night. At 160 plus pounds, most people figured that the weight difference and the height difference would be too much for Pacquiao. This never happened, Oscar stayed in the mid 140's (weird), and Pacquiao was able to use his speed to cruise to a lopsided victory.

So finally, it looks as if we will have a primed Manny Pacquiao vs a primed Ricky Hatton in early May, 2009. Most people feel that Pacquiao will win this one as well, but at least we have two fighters that are primed and ready, and a style match up that should prove to make an exciting fight. Adding to the intrigue will be the rabid Ricky Hatton fans, with their singing, and the banging of the drums. Countering that will be Pacquiao's loyal Filipino fans, all packed together in one venue in Las Vegas. This will no doubt have an electrifying effect that will light the place up.

Boxing desperately needs more exciting fights. The sport is getting it's ass kicked by the UFC, and I challenge anyone to prove otherwise. Boxing promoters are charging the fans near $50.00 to watch fights like Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr! Oh, and let's talk about the under-cards. Are you kidding me? The last few PPV under-cards were ridiculous. Usually because the promoter has his young prospect matched up against some cable repairman that boxes part time to make ends meet. The result? Usually a 1st round knockout and yet another black eye on the sport.

So, back to Ricky Hatton vs Manny Pacquiao. Finally, it appears that this one may actually live up to the hype. Again, most agree that Pacquiao should win this one, but at least it's two fighters in their primes, and two guys that don't have a reverse gear. The Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton fight more than likely will not suck.
