Pacquiao v. Hatton - The Trainers Will Start The Fight Early

The May 2 mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton is nearly finalized, but the verbal battle will not play out between the fighters. The trainers, Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Freddie Roach, have been feuding verbally for nearly two years. The Pacquiao-Hatton clash will provide some serious bragging rights for the winning trainer, especially in this case.

The Mayweather-Roach feud began when Oscar De La Hoya refused to meet Floyd Sr's financial demands to train him for the May 07 fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. De La Hoya dropped Floyd Sr. and instead hired Roach. Mayweather Sr. jumped sides and began to help his son by revealing De La Hoya's secrets. During the promotional tour for De La Hoya-Mayweather, Floyd Sr. took every possible opportunity to take verbal shots at Roach. Often Roach would fire back.

Mayweather Sr. and Roach do most of the talking for their fighters. And there will be plenty of talk taking place in the next few weeks when the media tour for Pacquiao-Hatton is tentative to start before the end of January - heading to New York, California and England.

Some early comments from Floyd Sr. indicate that we should expect fireworks during the tour.

"Everyone is building up Pacquiao to be the next great thing but Ricky will handle him. I know Pacquiao is fast but Ricky has extremely fast footwork and he’s strong. Believe me when I tell you we have a solid game plan for that fight," Floyd Sr. told writer Lee Bates.
