Ex-champ picks Pacquiao by KO
Los Angeles — No contest.
That’s how Michael Moorer, former world light-heavyweight and heavyweight champion of the world, sees the May 2 battle between Filipino Manny Pacquiao and British Ricky Hatton at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“Short night,” Moorer told a handful of scribes at the Wild Card Boxing Club, a shrine on Vine Street in Hollywood, among boxing aficionados.
“Manny the winner…(He’s) a different caliber of fighter. He works, works, and works. He never gets tired,” said the 41-year-old Moorer. “He’s a machine.”
“I have seen him (Hatton) fight before and I am not impressed at all. Manny’s just an all-around fighter.”
Moorer took the role of the Wild Card’s new enforcer in January and he’s been a valuable presence in Roach’s preparation for Pacquiao against Hatton being a southpaw.
Moorer only retired last year after winning a first-round knockout – his 40th – in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. His record stands at 52-4-1 with 40 knockouts.
Moorer said Pacquiao can end a fight with either hand although his left remains as his bread and butter.
Asked if he has any concerns about Hatton’s style.
