No need to worry — Pacman
San Francisco — Manny Pacquiao paused, grinned and then looked at the direction of his interviewer aboard the Dassault Falcon 10-seater jet that took off from the Bay Area en route to Los Angeles on Tuesday night after receiving a rousing welcome at the AT&T Park.
“(Just) relax, don’t worry,” Pacquiao told the scribe, who joined the fighter, Top Rank head Bob Arum and key members of the Filipino’s entourage in the 45-minute flight back to Tinseltown.
“Just watch,” Pacquiao said, sounding supremely confident he will get the job done when ranged against rugged British banger Ricky Hatton on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“I know what to do because I trained hard and I believe in myself,” said Pacquiao, who was treated like a rock star when he graced the Philippine Heritage Day at the famed ballpark just before the actual game between the SF Giants and the San Diego Padres where he was made to throw the ceremonial pitch to the delight of the huge crowd.
“The response of the people is incredible. I feel like I am rock star,” said Pacquiao, who accommodated almost everyone who asked to pose for pictures and even those who shoved memorabilia and other stuff in his face for signature.
After taking centerstage on the mound, eliciting cheers from the audience for his perfect pitch using the left hand, Pacquiao went up to Suite 49 to catch some action before being whisked to a limousine bus for the return flight to Southern California.
“Everywhere he goes, he gets mobbed and cheered,” said Mike Koncz, Pacquiao’s adviser, said as members of the Bay Area police force escorted him away from the throng of fans.
If Pacquiao scores yet another win next week, expect the public’s hunger for the fighter to reach another plateau.
