Pacquiao poised to get back at Hatton – in darts

MANILA, Philippines –Manny Pacquiao has made it known he wanted to “get back" at Ricky Hatton, who beat him in a friendly game of darts during their promo tour in England last month.

Apparently, so poised was the Filipino ring super star to avenge his "loss" to the Mancunian slugger-cum-darts player that in the middle of training at the WildCard gym, Pacquiao sponsored and played in a darts tournament in Los Angeles.

According to a report on QTV’s Balitanghali, Pacquiao underwent grueling gym work and 10 rounds of sparring on Black Saturday (Sunday in Manila) then proceeded to the Wilshire Plaza Hotel in the evening for the $30,000 Pacmania Open Steel Tip Dart Tournament.

The “Pacman," in addition to sponsoring the two-day tournament that attracted some of the top darts competitors in the US and as far as the UK, played in the singles division and was entered in the doubles play set on Easter Sunday (Monday in Manila).

The tireless Pacquiao, who had jokingly challenged Hatton to a darts rematch during the recent presser in LA, claimed that spending two days throwing steel tips onto the board would not hamper his ring preparations at all.

“Hindi naman sagabal kasi tapos na naman ang training ngayon at bukas ay Sunday pahinga naman ako," Pacquiao told Balitanghali.

The current holder of the boxing’s mythical pound for pound title, Pacquaio is known to be into other sports, playing basketball, billiards, and yes, darts during his off time from boxing. Hatton, for his part, is a said to be good at darts, a traditional pub game in his native land, something he immediately showed in a Manchester pub against the Filipino.

But more than darts, Pacquiao and Hatton are truly better at the squared ring, their “Battle of East and West" duel on May 2 in Las Vegas anticipated to be a likely candidate for Fight of the Year honors due to their explosiveness and punching power.
