Pacquiao has a lot more to worry, says Hatton

MANILA, Philippines - Size is said to be Ricky Hatton’s main advantage against Manny Pacquiao. After all, the Hitman is a natural and still unbeaten at junior welterweight – the weight they are slated to fight in – while the Pac Man is just making his second fight at 140-lbs or more in a career that started at 106-lbs.

But as far as Hatton is concerned, size is just one of the many weapons Pacquiao will have to contend with when they slug it out in “The Battle of East vs West" title fight on May 2 in Las Vegas.

In worldwide media teleconference from Manchester Wednesday (early Thursday in Manila), Hatton said his improved speed and overall ring skill will offer bigger problems for the Filipino ring idol.

"I strongly believe I will be as fast as Manny. If I'm not as fast as Manny, I'll only be the narrowest of margins behind," Hatton was quoted by Sky Sports. "He's going to get a shock. The technical side and the speed will shock him more than anything."

The Hitman said his he’s been having a very good training camp under Floyd Mayweather, Sr. and the fruits of his hard work will fully unravel on the ring against the Pac Man.

"I've always said at 140 pounds I believe I'm too strong and too big. With the hand speed and punching, the things I'm learning with Floyd and my boxing ability, Manny has got something else to worry about besides the sheer size. He has got some technical ability to worry about come the night," he said.

"If you can make him miss, he's very open and off balance. If he misses, he's going to have some big shots waiting for him," he added.

Hatton (45-1 with 32 knockouts) will stake his International Boxing Organization (IBO) junior welter crown against Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs), the reigning pound-for-pound champion.
